Cracking the code for our seat at the table

Logo

Dearest Readers,

This week you must have noticed that we have started consolidating all our videos with the same one type of branding. This is because after a year and half of trial and error, we believe we cracked the code.

Our blue text branding, with our tri yellow/blue/white colors and sound effects have worked across the board on all platforms. With the successes of many of our videos, some of them even achieving virality, we are going to hunker down and create more products of success. We realize now that it's not so much what is being said but how it is being done so; at TMJ, we aim to be masters at both.

The reason why all this is interesting to me personally as the editor is that I now know that we can actually compete with news giants. I always believed it, but I now know it. News outlets like CNN have thousands working for them, and they are a content popping giant with no funding shortages. Regardless, we are killing the game on social media, and our stuff is out there just the same.

The obstacle now will not be the reach, which is easily between 500k to a million users monthly, but what can we do to strengthen ourselves for the threat we are about to become. Will they allow a media outlet to speak the truth, go entirely against the mainstream, and exist ethically?

We know that we live in a tyranny of corrupt systems, those we must fight endlessly against. But what does that look like for TMJ News, and what is the fate of our future?

Let's face it, TMJ News is an experiment. Not in the temporary sense, because we plan to stick around forever. But it is one of its kind, never been done before; a God centric lens on News and World Issues? It's never happened, especially in the sense we know it now today, as journalists! All this is very exciting, but also interesting for a godless society we live in today.

But is it? Are we godless? Every post at TMJ, every interview, every like and share, all attributes to the fact that there are more of us and less of them. We just never had a voice, or were given token representation, or sidelined because of being "religious." As one comment read on Sara's latest reel interviewing Grow with Marjan (a Persian IG social media influencer in Hong Kong), she said "this is the type of representation hijabi women deserve." Because when have they, the news giants, ever shown the hijab kindly? And because of their negative representation, how many hijabi women have felt the brunt of Islamophobic attacks?

All this goes to show how powerful media is in shaping ideas, culture and society. And TMJ News is giving that space to not just have a seat at the table, but to be that table and give our community members every single seat.

Now that's what I'm talking about.

Warm regards,

Zainabrights
