World's LARGEST Human Gathering Held in Iraq
Arbaeen translates to fortieth day in Arabic, which is known as the traditional mourning period in Islam. The commemoration of Arbaeen marks the end of 40 days of mourning for Hussain ibn Ali, his family and his companions who were killed and imprisoned on Ashura, the 10th of Muharram. The tradition that began with the Holy Prophet's closest companion Jafar ibn Abdullah Ansari who visited the graves of the martyrs on the 40th day continues till today, with the world's largest peaceful gathering held in Iraq.

The Arbaeen pilgrimage, commemorating the 40th day after the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS), will take place on August 25, 2024. It is one of the largest annual religious gatherings in the world, with millions of Shia Muslims converging on the holy city of Karbala, Iraq.
