Dearest Reader,

This week we published the first part of an in-depth sanctions report by one of our investigative journalists, Fiza. It gives a grueling perspective on how deep and far reaching the sanctions imposed by our nation are that affect every day people. We hear the word sanctions being thrown around almost every day, especially with the war in Ukraine, and this word is often guised under heroic pretexts.

Fiza, as any good investigative journalist, compiled her data by digging deep and calling official statistic centers to get the information that we needed to understand this complex issue. What are sanctions and what exactly do they do? As Americans we have every right to know and to be informed, and this first part does just that.

The truth is, the topic can go on infintely which is why we needed to separate it into two parts. It is also a very broad topic especially when we are tackling global sanctions imposed on other nations by America.

But to me it’s all the more of a reminder that we must be mindful of the times we live in, aware of the oppression that happens in our name and that our peace and security comes at the expense of others. What does that mean then and where do we go from here?

We also published two new episodes of our series on the LGBT agenda with guest host Mohamad for For God and Country. Who better than That Muslim Guy to do a takeover of my show on this topic from a God centric perspective. With all that’s going on currently, we can see how it is affecting the children where they have to consistently choose between their world view and getting an education. What can we do to stay informed and how far back does the agenda really go, all questions that Mohamad expertly breaks down in the latest miniseries.

When I look at what TMJ is producing and the work we’re doing for the community I can’t help but feel proud of where we were and where we’ve come. We hit 10k on instagram and, although we measure success by impact rather than numbers, it is definitely satisfying that our work is reaching more and more people every day. And it’s in the every day successes, no matter how small, that we are grateful for.
