Having grit is not a bad thing

Dearest Reader,
What do you say about working so hard at a job, but loving every minute of it?
Work doesn’t feel like work because everything we do for TMJ is rewarding. We don’t mind putting in the hours, staying up the nights, and even physically working with our hands to put things together, like our new space we are moving into in just seven days.
Someone wrote in a comment after we posted our fundraising video that they had no idea TMJ was actually so small, and our work environment was so shabby and falling apart. We had somehow given the idea that we were a large company that worked in glass buildings and had unlimited resources. Social media has a way of doing that; giving impressions that are unrealistic.

They thought that with such comments, we would feel bad about where we are now. But in reality, it's quite the opposite. We want to be known as media at the grassroots, the ones who work hard every single day, the ones who aren’t handed things but will move mountains in order to achieve it. I, as the editor, always wanted TMJ to be for the people and by the people.
Because when the time comes, and we do need help, we know our community of readers and viewers will be there to assist us. We started out working in cafes, getting kicked out of them, working out of our basements, to our last rental studio space and now moving into our permanent one. Even though it's a fixer upper, it's ours and it's ours to stay inshallah.

This doesn’t sound to me like shabby and small, but of grit especially for being in our second year. Nothing good in life comes easy, and we embraced that from the beginning with a smile. It’s not profit we are after, but the truth, and to serve our communities with content that is otherwise gagged and manipulated.
With that being said, this is the time where we need your help.

We are working tirelessly at our new studio every day. We have been putting in flooring tile by tile, and getting the approval from the city to build our wall for our entrance. We still need to fix our ceilings, install lighting, fix our doors and bathroom.
What we can do with our bare hands, we are already doing. But materials cost an arm and a leg, and the labor for work such as putting up the wall and plumbing still need funding. We ask that you give what you can and share the campaign widely.
TMJ News belongs to you, and it needs your help in order to sustain it. With this new place, we can continue to dream big.
Your Editor,
Zainab
URGENT APPEAL- Fund the Space for God Centric Journalism
TMJ News recently had the opportunity to move into a permanent space that we see ourselves being in for a very long time. This is a place where we plan to host think tanks, hold newsroom meetings, and have our interviews with guests on our various podcasts and shows.
This new space is a fixer-upper, and it needs a lot of work. We need to build walls, fix the ceilings, change out the lighting, paint the existing walls, install flooring, etc.
Our move-in date is scheduled for two weeks time. With your help and support, we can have the funding we need for critical renovations for our new home.
