The war we cannot afford

What’s Brewing?
There’s been a lot of talk of a regional war brewing, now that America has been left high and dry in the seas, with France backing down seen as a major blow to the alliance. Wonder what’s gotten into Macron? And then there was the targeted assassination of Iranian commander Brigadier General Seyyed Razi Mousavi on Monday Dec. 25 where he was deployed to Syria as a military advisor to the country. Mousavi was actively involved in the fight against ISIS in Syria. So why then was he targeted by Israeli strikes; and more importantly, how does Israel have the time to focus elsewhere when it has been embroiled in fighting the Resistance fronts in Palestine and Lebanon. Does the targeted assassination of an Iranian commander mean a regional war is brewing? What’s more, Iran and Russia have decided to ditch the U.S. dollar and trade instead in their own local currencies. We know that Palestine has always been an important component of the greater West Asian puzzle piece, because Israel’s want for the region does not end there but rather at a “greater Israel” which spans from the “Nile to the Euphrates.”

So with escalating attacks on US troops, and Yemen coaxing the US government to confront them directly rather than through proxies, Israel’s war on Gaza could widen into a regional conflagration with grave consequences. The only option now for the US to evade such a war would be to distance itself from Israel which is turning out to be more of a liability than an asset each passing day. The thought of a worsening security situation represents a deeper crisis in light of the plummeting ratings of Joe Biden’s presidency, especially as Israel wants to drag out the war against the Palestinian Resistance for months and people on social media are openly witnessing atrocities on innocents and children. It’s bad on all fronts, especially because the United States is looking desperate as it tries its best to scale down this war. Consequences include painful economic supply chain disruptions as goods are going to be blocked in the Red Sea and will cause global reverberations. Biden, who is heavily involved in the Ukraine war, will avoid a war with the Axis of Resistance at all fronts. And if, despite all his efforts, America still finds itself in the midst of this regional war that we certainly cannot afford, we may be seeing the shrinking of an empire.

Israeli Occupation Says it Regrets Harm to Civilians

The Israeli Occupation Forces have killed thousands of Palestinians in the past two months, and there were no words of regret there. Yet, the Israeli military apologized on Thursday for a strike that “likely caused unintended harm” after dozens of Palestinians were killed in the Maghazi refugee camp in the center of Gaza this week. This apology of course came after receiving intense international backlash for the unjustified acts of terror it has unleashed in Gaza. Israel seems to have put on a morality show now, only to reveal just how hypocritical its illegal regime has always been. Even after expressing “regret,” the devastating reality is that the Israeli occupation will not be held accountable for any of its international war crimes.

AstraZeneca Buys Chinese Company for $1.2 Billion

The company, Gracell Biotechnologies, is a Chinese firm focused on a type of cancer therapy known as CAR-T that modifies a patient’s cells to fight the disease. AstraZeneca struck a deal with the company for up to $1.2 billion as it expands its footprint into China, its second-largest market. The latest purchase marks AstraZeneca’s second deal with a Chinese company, the first being a November deal to develop a weight loss pill with biotech firm Eccogene. The push to expand to China seems to be a common denominator with many major Western brands looking to maximize profits with low costs.

The New York Times Sues Microsoft and OpenAI

The Times filed a lawsuit against Microsoft and OpenAI on Wednesday over copyright infringement and for abusing the newspaper’s intellectual property. It believes there has been unlawful copying of the Time’s uniquely valuable works, emphasizing that journalistic material cannot be used for commercial gain without permission from the original source. But this is just the beginning of media publishers — and other content creators — realizing that AI chatbots have become the preferred source for people who want curated content directly fitted to their needs in seconds. In a world that values instant gratification above all else, primary sources seem to be fading into the horizon…

Israel Strips UN Staff of Visa Privileges

The Israeli occupation has said it will no longer automatically grant visas for United Nations workers after determining that some members were “complicit partners” with Palestinian militants. Senior spokesperson Eylon Levy announced the decision on Tuesday after slamming UN officials for covering up for Hamas and deflecting blame onto Israel. This move comes after repeated UN warnings on the catastrophic humanitarian crisis in Palestine following the Israeli occupation’s bombing campaign in the region for the past two and a half months. At this point it seems the illegal occupation is desperate to take revenge on any and all entities that speak the truth about its war crimes.
