The world is a weird place to be in right now. We see the carnage, and people taking to the streets, more tanks and arms rolling through from the United States, the UN unable to accomplish much and the ethnic cleansing of an entire people going forward in full force. But amidst this helplessness, something different is brewing. The wrath of the people is coming, and it may be what's needed to stop this brutal onslaught.

What’s Brewing?

This week we've started suddenly seeing more coverage for Palestinian voices, whether it's Piers Morgan bringing in people to debate with (though he keeps asking the same question: do you condemn Ha.mas) and CNN inserting full videos of the Egyptian woman who went viral. It seems that they need to throw a bone here and there to somehow keep their credibility as journalists. But what no one can deny is the PR nightmare Israel is facing right now as they try to control the narrative especially on social media. This shows the extent of their unpreparedness for the October 7 operation. They've stopped hearing themselves as they speak to millions about how Israel is the light, or admonish journalists from covering the issue holistically. They've been posting and deleting their fault, like at the hospital bombing attack sloppily we dare say. But this time, people are calling bull.

World

Manhunt for “mentally unstable” army reservist continues

On Wednesday, an Army reservist in Maine killed 18 people in a mass shooting — and authorities have no idea where he is now. Police identified the suspect as 40-year-old Robert Card, a US Army reservist who enlisted in December 2002. He had also received several awards throughout his service, including the Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and Humanitarian Service Medal. But police say Card was admitted to a mental health facility over the summer after “acting erratically”  — and yet somehow was released two weeks later. After Card murdered 18 people, hundreds of law enforcement agents were deployed to search for him, with no luck thus far.

Russia and China are hitting trade records

Russia’s trade turnover with China is set to reach $220 billion this year, surpassing government projections by about $20 billion. At a time when Russia is heavily sanctioned by the West, Moscow’s economic dependence on China has significantly grown over the past decade. Presidents Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping pledged to boost bilateral trade to $200 billion in 2023 — but the numbers have gone even higher. Ruslan Davydov, the acting head of Russia’s Customs Service, said that trade between the two nations increased by 27 percent ($35 billion) between January and September.

Pedophiles are using AI to sexualize children

As if preying on children online wasn’t enough, pedophiles are reportedly also using images of celebrities and singers to create a reimagined, child-like version of them. The Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) reported that images of a famous female singer were transformed to resemble a child using AI, and are now being shared by predators on the internet. Images of child actors have also been manipulated to sexualize them as some pedophiles take their predatory behavior to the next level. The IWF is conducting extensive reports on the growing problem, adding that “our worst nightmares have come true.”

The world is failing Gaza

In case anyone feels useless today, perhaps it will help to remember that the United Nation still exists. As the UN votes on the unfolding devastations in Gaza and the West Bank without reaching any meaningful or constructive decisions, Palestinians can only observe. As a non-member observer, Palestine can speak at UN meetings but cannot vote on any resolutions about Gaza. This is while Palestinians are losing their lives in the thousands back home, but the international community has yet to decide what constitutes a genocide of innocent people, and whether international law has been violated after 7,000 Palestinians have been killed.
