Miracles under the rubble

Derailed trains, toxic substances and the rise of Ozempic use for weight-loss. Last week it was the egg crisis. These are the issues on the minds of many Americans lately, and something for us to investigate upon.
Miles away, hearts are aching with the thought of how over 40,000 have died in the terrible duo earthquakes that hit Turkey and Syria 13 days ago. Investigations have been pointing out how many of the buildings were not up to code as corruption was rampant in the affected areas. TMJ also reported on the miracles that have been emerging out of the earthquake, including people being rescued days after the earthquake hit, and surprisingly being able to talk with high energy despite having no food and water.
Perhaps what we found most inspiring from all this has been the devout faith many victims have displayed, from praising God as they carry their dead loved ones, refusing to being rescued without their veils or wanting to perform ablution while inside the rubble. It's made me question what faith really means, and whether we have what it takes to overcome devastating hardship in the West.

We had also mentioned in the last wake up newsletter that we had an intensive 3 day last weekend with one of our journalists where we spent brainstorming for the months ahead, filming a Blue Sofa show, recording an intro for another show and building our 'think tank' Cafe from scratch. This is especially exciting for us to host consultants, journalists and focus groups as we expand our work as well as our scope. Both Fatima and I are also highly visual planners, so we look forward to setting up a visual pin board where we can track our milestones, goals as well as future plans for TMJ.

We had our journalist Sara also hand paint signs for the cafe that read 'Haq' 'Adl' and 'Iman', the three pillars of TMJ which stand for Truth, Justice and Faith. Final look coming soon!
This past week we launched the epic trailer for For God and Country, where I look scarier than I really am (I promise) but I think the show is as serious as it needs to be. An important discussion on the politics of Hijab is being edited as we speak, and other topics are on the pipeline. From the demonic rituals at the Grammys, to the Church of England discussing non-binary gender pronouns for God, the list is endless. Where do we start?
We are just glad to finally have a space to be ourselves, speak our values, tell our stories, and report on news from our lens. The work may be endless but it is rewarding, especially when we are authentically being who we are and doing our jobs as they need to be done. In fact, we are doing it so well that one of our articles that went viral on social media as an investigative piece on the Molham team was suddenly removed on Instagram, with no ability to appeal. This is more of a reason why the Wake-Up newsletter is crucial to TMJ News, where we can tell stories without the worry of being censored.Your Editor,

Can you guess this week's riddle?
We should never miss a chance to solve a fun riddle on a Sunday. So, here we go:"I am a world within a world, where words paint vivid pictures and the impossible becomes real. I am a voice that can inspire, educate, and entertain, yet I am often silent until someone takes me in their hands. What am I?"
If you have an answer reply with your best guess. The correct answer will be revealed in our next Newsletter. 😉P.S: The answer to the last week’s riddle is ‘A Journal’. Had you guessed it right?
And that's a wrap for this week! We hope you’re healthy and safe as we updated you on this Sunday morning while you were having your coffee.
